It is not a small group class

In a class, everyone usually follows the same session. In well-run semi-private coaching, clients may use different exercises, loads or progressions while sharing the coach’s attention and the energy of the session.

At Impact, semi-private coaching is designed for up to three people. The small ratio matters because the coach must still observe technique, record work and make individual decisions.

What a session can look like

The coach checks readiness, explains the day’s priorities and guides each person through their programme. One client may be learning a movement while another progresses load or volume. Rest periods allow the coach to move between people without turning the session into a circuit.

Good organisation keeps everyone active while preserving quality. The aim is not to rush through stations; it is to complete the right work with appropriate coaching.

Who it suits

Semi-private training can work well for beginners who want reassurance, experienced trainees who value structure and people who enjoy training near others without losing personalisation. It can also offer a more accessible level of coaching than exclusive one-to-one sessions.

  • You want an individual plan but enjoy shared energy
  • You need technique feedback and planned progression
  • You are comfortable sharing the coach with a very small number of clients

When one-to-one may be better

One-to-one coaching may be preferable when you need continuous attention, have complex limitations, feel uncomfortable training near others or need highly flexible pacing. The right format should follow the support required, not simply the most popular option.

Questions to ask before joining

Confirm the maximum group size, whether everyone receives an individual plan, how progress is recorded and how the coach manages different experience levels. Those details separate genuine semi-private coaching from a class with a premium label.

Put it into practice

Semi-private personal training works when the group stays small and the coaching remains personal. You gain structure, attention and accountability while training alongside a few other people.
